Little by Little
I've been slowly working through this book and practicing on different subjects over the course of the month and I can see progress. I tried my hand on the AI model and got this:
I think this is the best drawing I've done to date. It was part of an exercise in the book. Yes, I know it's not perfect and yes, I know I didn't hit the light and shadow all the way right, but it's literally the closest to realism that I've done so far.
Now I have been working on realism for the most part, but I do have a style I've been thinking about going towards. I want to nail down realism so that I can use that as a template to form my characters in a noir-style cartoon. I would like to figure out their full features as a human before I cartoonize them for the sake of Rockwood.
Rockwood has a dark, underworldy feel to it, plus I just love that style. I've always been drawn to it for some reason, so I think I want to explore that style and medium more. It does mean I need to get a lot better at drawing negative spaces (the chair drawing), than I am now. Granted, it's only been one time, haha. I got time.
I've also been researching animation software that I can use to create the film and thinking about smaller, bite sized projects that I can start on to learn how to animate. I found a YouTube video on animation software, so I think I'll try doing the free stuff first, just to get a feel for things, before I upgrade to a paid subscription. I've been thinking back on my stories that I've already written, but (after I am able to draw a simple ball bouncing across the table and create a story from that), I will start with either Crolis or the Rainbow Candy story. I think I'm leaning towards the Rainbow Candy story. It's not a noir style cartoon, but it'll get me going in creating an easy story that I can get started. Then maybe later on I can use it to publish this damn book before the girls become too old to enjoy it.
