Bighead #3
Eh? Eh? I'm getting there, haha. So this piece took me 2 1/2 hours and I did make his head smaller than the reference photo on accident, but Dominic didn't care. He took it. He always takes the drawings that I make of him, but it's a major improvement from the last time I drew him, which was here:
The more I do these, the more I see where I need to work on with these portraits. So, I practiced making a black man's nose by just Googling it and then drawing the first guy's nose I saw, then I tried out this portrait. When I showed it to Dominic, he was very pleased, but I can see where it needs more work (aside from the obvious fact that his head is too small. I'm getting a little better with light and shadow, but his collar needed more detail, his ears improved, but I could do better, and I can do better with blending his nose into the picture more to give it more realistic detail like I did on my practice nose.
See with the practice nose, I blended the lines more and used light and shadow to really define the shape of it, rather than depending on the lines to formulate a shape like I did with Dominic's portrait. I want to maybe try a drawing not using lines at all and see how that goes. Just solely just darkening the whole page and using my handy dandy eraser pencil to make the whole drawing. That might be a cool exercise to try.
