The New Thing I Never Thought I Could Do

In April, after finding myself in the depths of what I now realize is a mid-life crisis, I did what I normally do when I feel as though my potential was wasted in a thankless industry. I learn something new.

Rather than learning something that's in line with something I already knew, I decided to do something different. I decided to learn how to do something I always told myself I couldn't do. Something I always admired the talent of others, but failed to have myself.

I decided that I would learn how to draw.

Now, it wasn't something that I just concluded on and hopped on YouTube. I still told myself, for months after I bought the book, that I wouldn't be able to do it. I got the book, "in case I got bored" or "in case Genta wanted to give it a try when she got older" or some bs excuse like that. When I finally decided that I was tired of the same ol' same ol', I picked up the book that I bought ages ago at Barnes and Noble, and gave it a try.

Of course the first couple of pictures I drew were as expected. Crap. But, as I worked my way through the book, something pecurlier happened.

To my own surprise, I started getting better. Come to find out it was my own logical perception that was the problem. To stop myself from thinking in symbols and to truly "draw what you actually see" caused me to improve my skills nearly overnight. I still have a lot of work to do, but I am also not done with my book.

The goal I made for myself when I got fed up with my life, was to create my own full length animated film of Rockwood. Instead of creating character assets specifically for the story, I'm creating actors who will be my character assets and be used in future films if I want to continue that route. I would only change their costume as they play different parts.

Getting to Simon Raphael Brevadelli, though, is my greatest challenge. I got closer last night, though.

I need to thin out his face and give him the right hairstyle, on top of doing better with his features like his nose, ears and lips. He looks a whole lot like this:

This image is almost perfect. His eyes are green, though (like the shirt he's wearing), and his a bit fairer in complexion, but not by a much more than it is right now. I know my drawing and Dalle's drawing are no where near the same, but at least I can see the makings of the resemblance. It's also worth noting that the picture above of Sie was from memory/imagination. It's no where near who I see in my head, but it's getting there. Drawing from imagination is hella hard. Even with the reference photos it's hard. The below model is the closest human that I found that looks like him.

No clue what his name is, Google found him, but the complection is right, the eye color is nearly right, the facial structure and the hair in the Dalle photo is more like Simons, so it's basically just merging these photos the right way will give me the man who's been living in my head for friggin' ever.

And then turning him into Stephan Royce...in animated form...along with a cast of other actors and characters. Should be interesting, but hey, at least I'm not cheating or buying a Viper.
